Kingson wants to keep clean sheet

Richard Kingson is confident of a Ghana win against Lesotho on Saturday in the final Group 5 match in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.

But the experienced Ghana’s number one goalkeeper is eager to keep a clean sheet after regulation time.

Ghana raced into a 3-0 lead in the reverse fixture against the Basothos in Bloemfontein but allowed their host back into the game when they pulled two goals back in the final moments of the game.

Ahead of Saturday’s match, Kingson, who was in post during the first leg expects to celebrate victory - which would ensure that the Black Stars play in the next round of the qualifiers - with a clean sheet.

“To win in this game would be very good for the team as we would be still be involved in the qualifiers,” he said after training.

“Our mentality is to win the game and everyone has a part to play to ensure this. I have a role to play and I want to finish the game without conceding a goal on an important day.”

Despite the Basothos having failed to pick a point so far in Group 5, Kingson says they remain a threat and recollects their finishing in the last encounter, when they scored two late goals.

“You can never underestimate teams like this. They have nothing to lose and would go all out. They showed us how dangerous they can be and we know that.

“I have to be at my best, get my timing right and be agile. The defence and the entire team would have to stay focused till we complete the job.”

Ghana host the Basothos in the reverse fixture in Group 5 of the African zone qualifier at the Sekondi Sports Stadium as the group campaign comes to an end over the weekend.

The Black Stars will need a better result to make progress into the next stage safe.
