Stars, Ghana to clash in Dar

It never gets better than this, the national team Taifa Stars is scheduled to play the second best team in Africa, Ghana in a build up match in Dar es Salaam on August 20. The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) spokesperson Florian Kaijage yesterday said Ghana Football Federation (GFF) has agreed to bring all their star players in the FIFA-approved friendly.

“We are happy with this build-up match because football lovers in the country will get an opportunity to watch some of the best players in the world.” Led by their Captain Stephen Appiah, the Black Stars are expected to come in two batches on August 18 and 19. Kaijage said it is Ghana’s local players that are expected to arrive on August 18 while professionals would arrive a day later.

The match will be used by Star’s coach Marcio Maximo to prepare the team for the new Africa Cup of Nations game against Sudan in November, where they still have hope to qualify for the finals due next year in Ivory Coast. Since the team is out of the Africa Cup of Nations race, it will also use their remaining two games in the competition against Mauritius and Cape Verde to prepare for Sudan.

Kaijage further said Maximo will announce his squad on Monday, which will start camp training on Wednesday. The team will have seven days of training before they meet the Black Stars and if they can obtain positive results, it will help them to improve on Fifa ranking from the 115th place where they are currently.

The Black Stars’ foreign-based players that are expected to make the trip to Dar es Salaam are Apiah and Sulley Muntari (Italy), Amoah Mathew (Holland), Quincy Owusu Abeyie Michael Essien, John Painstil (England), Gyan Asamoah (France), Draman Haminu (Russia) and Antony Annan(Norway). Others include John Mensah (Lyon), Issah Ahmed (Denmark), Eric Addo (German), Hans Adu Sarpei (German), William Amamoo (Egypt) and Prince Tagoe(Ryadh).
